So, here's the life narrative all my friends know: I used to be network analyst, which paid a lot more than I'll ever make now, but I pretty much lived for vacations. After I realized how crazy it was to live 3 weeks out of the year, I quit and went to a small liberal arts college in Texas. I lived in Italy for a semester, and studied ancient Greek and psychology. It was a blast. Now I work for REI because I can't be in an office or cubical ever again. My salary is smaller, but I have my soul back. I also get to travel more than ever I did when I was stuck in an office.

I work for a consumer co-op that promotes the outdoors. I was an Outreach Specialist for a while, which was the most fun I've ever had at work. My job was pretty much to give grants to environmental non-profits, promote the co-op, and agitate for improved ecological practices. I spent 50% of my time outdoors (on the clock), either paddling, hiking, cycling or climbing (I suck at climbing, though). In 2007, I had the opportunity to move to Philly, but only on the condition that I become a manager, which is a bit of a trade-off. Still, it was worth it -- Ben Franklin is my hero and I have at least a year to see DC, NY and Boston over and over.

I started this blog mainly to let my friends and family keep tabs on me, as I no longer live in Texas. I may make it back some day, but I have a lot of the world left to see.

I like kayaking and SCUBA diving, and try to combine the two whenever I can. My job supports this habit, of course. I plan on touring the eastern seaboard by kayak over the next year or two, and want to section hike the Pennsyvania portion of the Appalachian Trail.

I read alot and I can't seem to live without books. My library really gets in the way of travelling, which I also love, so I am in the process of transitioning from paper books to ebooks. I'm buying a Sony Reader and a new laptop with a mass storage device. My goal is to bring my library from 2,000 volumes to 500. As you may have guessed, I'm a huge geek. Check out my science fiction site, if you don't believe me: www.worldswithoutend.com is the address.
